Sid Leech
Sid Leech is an antagonistic character who appeared in the Season 3 episode "Simon Says". An old friend of Cyril's big brother and Cedric's uncle, Simon Sneer, he posed as Simon hoping to steal half of the Sneer fortune. His efforts were thwarted by Bert Raccoon.
He was voiced by the late Marvin Goldhar.
Simon Says[]
Very little is known about Sid Leech's life, except that he was a good friend of Cyril Sneer's older brother Simon. Even as a child, Sid displayed a bit of a cruel streak. According to Cyril, Sid was always stealing his candy and his despite his friendship with Simon, Sid was not above playing harsh pranks on him. On one occasion he put a spider into Simon's bed, despite knowing full well that his friend hated spiders. Simon got his revenge a week later, by stuffing a worm down Sid's back. He later noted in his diary that Sid was absolutely terrified by the experience, which Simon found amusing. Simon didn't know it, but this diary entry would prove very important in the years to come.
Years later, Simon Sneer disappeared whilst serving in the navy during WWII and was never heard from again. As his parents only surviving child, Cyril inherited both the families fortune and business making him a very wealthy man. For several decades, everybody assumed Simon Sneer to be dead.
Then, one day, an old aardvark claiming to be Simon appeared on the doorstep. Even though he had never seen the boy before, the man knew who Cedric was and when Cyril appeared moments later, was happily embraced by the man claiming to be his brother. Going into the sitting room, Simon told his relatives that he survived the sinking of his by clinging to wreckage. He was then washed up on a deserted island, where he lived for many years. When he eventually realised that help was not coming, Simon says he built himself a ship, which took him fifteen years to complete.
Cedric was intrigued by this story and delighted at the idea of having an uncle in his family. Cyril on the other hand was highly suspicious. Although he claimed to recognise the man from somewhere, he was absolutely certain that the man was not his brother. Simon claimed that this was because he was a child and pointed out several things about the house that only a Sneer would have known, such as marks on the fireplace where they measured their heights and their grandfathers collection of wooden ships. Cyril tried to prove that the man was not his brother by having his pig minions go through Simons old possessions. The old aardvark answered all of the questions flawlessly, which only seemed to verify his claim at being Cyril's long lost brother. Despite all of this Cyril was still not convinced and his so called brother followed by the Pigs.
Over the next few days, Simon bonded with Cedric teaching him about sailing and accompanying him to several activities. Cedric introduced his uncle to his friends, who were also delighted to meet him. Everyone that is, except for Bert Raccoon. Having recently developed a passion for detective stories, Bert also became suspicious of Simon, from the moment he shook his hand. Not wanting his friend to get hurt, Bert conducted his own investigation, trying to unearth evidence against Simon. He managed to recover Simon's old diary and a photograph of him and his best friend Sid Leech. Apart from that, all Bert succeeded in doing was annoying Cedric, who was convinced that the man in question was his long lost uncle.
Despite bonding with his so-called nephew, Simon insisted that Cyril uphold their fathers will now that he had returned. Having hired an expensive lawyer, Mr Moleman, who had "incontestable evidence" as to Simons identity, Cyril was served a court-order, demanding that he sign over half of the family fortune and company to his brother. The vain and greedy Cyril was not happy with the idea of handing over half of his hard-earned fortune, especially to a man who had done nothing to earn it, but who he was still convinced was not his brother Simon. Unfortunately for the greedy tycoon, he had no choice.
On the day that the sign over was due to take place, Mr Moleman brought over the necessary paperwork. Cyril arrived with his son, whilst Ralph and Melissa Raccoon took notes and pictures for their newspaper. Before Cyril could sign the papers, Bert crashed the meeting and made two final attempts to expose Simon as an imposter. He brought over the Sneer families former groundskeeper, Fern, whom he hoped would identify him. Unfortunately, the elderly otter failed him, but when Bert showed him a fake spider, Simon did not react, stating that he lost his fear of spiders years ago.
Having had enough of Bert's antics, Cedric yelled at his friend to stop his fools errand, stating he was "fishing for clues that aren't there!" It was here that Bert's search paid off. Mishearing what Cedric had said, Fern pulled a worm out of his overall, saying they were the best bait for fishing. At the sight of the wriggling creature, "Simon" screamed in horror, yelling at the groundskeeper to keep them away from him. Upon seeing the old aardvarks reaction, Bert finally realised who he really was ... Sid Leech!
To prove his case, Bert pulled out Simon's old diary and read the passage about the incident with the spider and the worm for everybody to hear. He then completely destroyed Sid's case by pointing out that as a childhood friend of Simon's, Sid would have known everything about the Sneer family. Thus, he was able to pose as his long lost friend without arousing any suspicion. Hearing all of this and seeing "Simon's" reaction to the worm, Cyril was furious to discover that his former bully had almost succeeded in swindling half of his hard earned money. Ralph and Melissa looked on angrily at the would-be-thief, but Cedric was devastated to learn that the man he'd bonded with and welcomed as family was nothing but a petty crook.
With his identity exposed, Sid's scheme came crashing down. Cyril refused to sign the paperwork and left with the deeply hurt Cedric. Mr Moleman also declared that under the circumstances he was no longer able to act as the aardvarks attorney. The only thing that Sid got that day was a bill from his former lawyer. Realising that he was beaten, Sid lamented on the fact that he had been exposed because of a worm!
As Cyril and Cedric left to spend some quality father and son time together, Ralph, Melissa and Schaeffer praised Bert for his detective work. When Schaeffer asked what had made Bert suspect Sid in the first place, the Raccoon said it was his handshake. Sid had claimed to have built a boat with his bare hands, but Bert noticed that his hands were soft. If his claim had been true, Sid's hands would have been rough and littered with calluses.
What happened to Sid Leech after this is not known, but it can be assumed that he left the area and was never seen again.
